Documenting Rochester

Documenting Rochester is a video and oral history project with the aim of documenting and preserving evidence of the black experience in Rochester, New York, over the past 100 years. Because the black experience in Rochester is deeply rooted in the family experience, the interviews will trace individual family stories and their histories in Rochester. We will walk the streets of Rochester and visit landmarks both those that are still standing as well as spaces that only live in memory.

How it works:

1. Sign-up to be interviewed and send background information about your family

2. Sign a waiver

3. Will be sent interview questions ahead of time

4. Schedule a date, time, and location to be interviewed

5. Conduct video histories

6. Receive a copy of the video

7. A copy will be archived
